Granada Cathedral by Jerry Webb

Location Scouting in Granada

Last week, Brighton street photographer Jerry Webb came over to Spain and we started photographing and planning the routes we will use in the Street Photography and Architecture workshop we’re running in Granada next April.

Preparing these workshops is quite a science. Not just a matter of turning people loose and hoping for the best! We’ve devised routes that are not too demanding physically, the longest is about 3km, that will offer multiple photo opportunities and most importantly light!

Check out some of Jerry’s images from the time we spent in Granada..

The workshop takes place over three days and the most likely outcome, depending on the weather is that we’ll spend two days in Granada and one in the White Villages – Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira. These three villages are very close to one another and offer a fascinating glimpse into the lifestyle of the Moors who created them. Narrow streets and white houses with the iconic chimneys that have become emblems of the area.

The routes we have devised combine the iconic views of Granada with the unseen and unphotographed. As one of the most photogenic cities I’ve lived in, Granada is surprisingly under represented on social media! There will be ample opportunity to stop for coffee and just take in the surroundings. The area we are covering is probably a square mile, as small as the original city of London, the plan is everyone will be given a map and rather than march people round pointing out the photo opportunities, we’ll brief everyone on the route and then we will all set off – Jerry and I will circulate to make sure everyone gets a helping hand or guidance when they need it.

We’re both looking forward to this workshop, Granada is an amazing city and rewards time spent wandering the streets around the lower Albayzin, Realejo and St Matias. We’ll be staying in the centre of the old town so people will have plenty of opportunity to wander under their own steam in the evening.
